The Plane of Water

Description

Tada! Here we are, the second in my series of maps for my "elemental planes". This one, as should be obvious, is the plane of Water. The Plane of Water might seem to be one of the less inhabited planes to those who dwell on land, but in reality it is one of the two most heavily populated. The seas are infested with fish, mollusks, monsters, mermen, and everything in between. The surface is dotted with mostly small islands, but larger landmasses support several kingdoms. The Plane is divided into two halves by "The Ice Line", a mysterious invisible (and probably magical) border between the northern and southern hemisphere. Cross to the north side, and the air turns frigid and is filled with gales. Cross to the south, the air turns warm and gentle. Obviously, most creatures live in the south.

The most famous inhabitant of the Plane of Water is Analaida, also known as the water witch. Ironically, not much is known about her, but the little that is known is that she is immensely powerful and should not be messed with. She lives in Water Witch Deep, an immense library built into the ocean floor, sustained by magic, protected by Analaida's sea creatures. She is neither "good" nor "evil", and serves no one. Her goals, if she has any, are usually unknown.

Locations of Note:
-Water Witch Deep: An immense magical library built into the ocean floor. Home of the witch Analaida. Guarded by magic and creatures friendly to Analaida.

-Wheel Island: Technically two islands in the shape of a bullseye. The central isle contains a large town. Though the people here are generally happy, many say that the water witch Analaida has been pulling the strings of the town's fate for years. Despite the fact that this means Analaida is responsible for the town's prosperity, many resent the idea of being controlled.

-The Sunken City: This immense ruin was once the greatest city in all the elemental planes. It was partially underwater to begin with (to accommodate sea creatures) but some calamity rent it apart and made it sink deeper. Though much of it actually remains above the surface, few dare to go near it.

-Royal Archipelago: This archipelago is the main area of the greatest kingdom in the Plane of Water. The first king and queen were heroes for driving back the ice monster of the north, and their descendants were assured supremacy forever for their deeds. The kingdom has weakened since then, but it still holds respect for its history.

-Gentle Beast Island: A peaceful island with cliffs running around most of the shores. The island is riddled with a huge network of caves inhabited by intimidating (but mostly peaceful) creatures, giving the island its name.

-Wizards' Peak: Atop this icy spire of stone is a glowing ball of rainbow light. None know what its purpose is, but many legends surround it. There is a common folk legend that if you manage the impossible climb to the light, your deepest wish will be granted, but no one can prove it because everyone who tried has perished.

-Royal's Pass: Here, in times long past, the first king and queen of the realm passed into the ice realm of the north to defeat a monster terrorizing the Plane. The pass is filled with deadly freezing winds and horrifying beasts, and it is acknowledged that merely getting through the pass alive would have earned the two heroes at least an island to rule over. The two peaks forming the pass's sides are named the blue and green crowns. Historically, the king and queen's crowns were named just that.

-Ice Demon Trenches: Once the home of the great beast which threatened the plane, the Ice Demon Trenches are still knowns as the most dangerous place in the entire plane. The great beast is dead, but horrifying monsters still lurk in every corner and crevice, and if the weather doesn't kill you, they certainly will.

Very cool map. Reminds me somehow of the Last Airbender world map, distant isles with strange features. Good work!
